Myths of wood floors and Under floor heating.
Some manufacturers say 21mm engineered wood floors with a 5 or 6mm wear layer are suitable for under floor heating however , there are some very defined reasons to consider why we should not be using these floors with under floor heating systems.
21mm engineered floors with a 5 or 6mm wear layer, because of their thickness have a very high tog rating, and whilst they can be used, it is important to understand that your heating will not work as efficiently as it should with a thinner 14mm or 15mm floor with a 4mm wear layer and a much lower tog rating.
We at Dijon Home & FLooring consider for this reason these floors are not suitable.
The 30% thicker section absorbs more power, takes 30% longer to heat up and costs 30% more to run, than with a 14mm floor. Rendering under floor heating with these floors far less effective and more expensive to run than some of the most inefficient electrical element types.
